Reminisce-Vector Diss; Cause, Translation, What Next? . . ..

I love hip hop….cheesy. I just love the disses. Been a while we saw anything like the rugged – mode nine diss palava in the naija Hiphop scene. Who didn’t miss that? Ok, so it’s no longer news that Reminisce aka “O ta lenu” did a one minute warning shot for Vector. Many people had issues with it because it was done in Yoruba. For comprehensive understanding and with the aim to carry everyone along, I did a line by line translation of Reminisce’s ‘dedication’ to Vector. You’ll find it useful especially if Yoruba is not your strongpoint.

The Genesis.
Reminisce dropped a monster street jam titled “2mussh” . . . here is what the intro is like “Reminisce, legendary beats . . o ta lenu, Leggo” (I particularly like this one).
Few days later, Saucekid dropped a monster of a song titled “kitchen” where he featured Vector, whether vector was just flowing with the title, or saw it as an opportunity to throw a jab at reminisce, you decide. As for me, I see it as him just rhyming. Reason? Apart from me just liking his personae and style of rap, while will he out of the blue for no reason want to diss someone who they dont share the same CV and type of genre? Ok ok this is what his intro on kitchen street looked like:
“For all those boys wey dey show
te ba fe ma form npe eyin lata, ani tomato to ma to…”
As promised, i got you on the translation.
“for all those boys wey dey show,
Wey wan dey form like say dem be pepper, We get tomato wey reach to reduce the pepper ”.
Then came and unexpectedly so too, Reminisce’s one minute snippet that had vector written all over it. After reading, take a step further and download if you’re a Yoruba rap fanatic that is.

Hmmmm, are you smiling like I did all through while writing this? But then, Vector chose to save the best for the last. No particular track has been released ‘in honor’ of Reminisce so far, but several punchlines have been anonymous yet unanimously directed at “Remi”.
The big question now is . . . . will the ‘kako bii chicken’ crooner get a full track? Will Vector tha Viper give him the attention he craves?

We all know vector is a lyrical nemesis any day anytime….. I remember the first time I heard him on HNIC’s show on Raypower, way back with fellow rapper A-Q, these dudes were freestyling for hours, off the top. If you have his album, you’ll get a 25MP picture of what I’m trying to say!

But the question is, can he do a diss song that will hit as hard as Reminisce’s 60seconds of demolition? Fine, Vector is the king of wordplay and punchlines, but to do a diss track u need more than that . . we have to feel the aggression, it has to be bloody 😀
@vectorYSG in response to his fan’s question over his silence despite the jab obviously directed at him tweeted:
“For y’all asking…. I sow truth, why should I reap lie (reply)” DEEP. Vector-like.
His YSG management said that they weren’t going to speak on the matter, categorically stating they had “nothing to say”. And all remained well until Saturday, June 9, 2012 when it appeared that Vector finally spoke out. Featuring on a song owned by yet another controversial rapper A-Q, Vector kept dropping subliminal insults to his ‘nameless’ opponent.
‘Your CD like abandon ships, it made not sail (sale)….your life is like your video, low budget..just because you bleach your skin doesn’t mean you are enlightened……if your men draw guns, then they must be skilled with pencils’. More like it, you say?
Back in March, both had attended 9ice’s ‘Bashorun Gaa Versus’ album concert and performed too. Reminisce even tweeted:‘Had fun @ BGV Concert!!! Chilled wit Vector too….’. What could have then gone wrong?
Time for readers to weigh in. Who’s your preferred act? What turn will you love to see this take? Whatever the outcome is, I’m positive fans of both rappers her enjoying these moments and hope it’ll last a little longer. Sentimentally though, I don’t see Reminisce surviving the lyrical menace of Viper. (I sure have the right to take sides, it’s my blog afterall 😉

With Travie McCoy hitting the pop top 5 out of the box with his solo debut single “Billionaire” it seemed an open question for a time whether he could bring his group Gym Class Heroes similar success. Some fans feared that the Cali hit maker was angling to leave his former crew behind. If you were one of those left wondering whether the Gym Class Heroes would survive its frontman’s transition to pop stardom, new single Stereo Hearts should be just the thing to allay your doubts. On this exuberant selection, instrumentalists Disashi, Eric and Matt hooked up with producer Benny Blanco behind the boards, cooking up a lush, bouncy hip-pop backdrop for McCoy’s picturesque musings on love, loss and the power of music. Comparing himself to an trusty old-school boom box that seen its share of bumps and bruises, he asks listeners, “Don’t get mad at me / when you have to purchase mad D batteries.” Maroon 5’s lead vocalist, Adam Levine assists on the guest tip, lending his vocals to the hook and poignant bridge.

In some ways it is difficult to see “Stereo Hearts” as much more than a Travie McCoy and Adam Levine duet. It seems possibly a Gym Class Heroes record only in name. However, it is a pop gem. Kicked off by Adam Levine’s sweetly soulful hook followed by the charm of Travie McCoy’s inquiries about a lover’s commitment, the song instantly sinks in as a charming pop tune. This is the second songwriting collaboration by Adam Levine and Benny Blanco on the current pop charts. They also worked together on Maroon 5’s  “Moves Like Jagger”. The common thread between the two is the sweet, upbeat nature of the song coupled with undeniable hooks. “Stereo Hearts” has since turned out to be the biggest Gym Class Heroes record since “Cupid’s Chokehold”.

Time for readers to weigh in—does this lead single leave you with high hopes for GCH’s forthcoming set? If you like what you’re hearing, keep it locked for details on The Papercut Chronicles II, which has yet to receive a solid drop date.
